Taxi fares in Canberra are regulated under the ACT Government’s maximum taxi fare determination. This calculator uses the current Canberra / ACT maximum fare structure for taxi fare estimates, including standard single hire fares, multiple hire fares, high occupancy taxi fares, waiting time and approved extra charges.
Each journey begins with a flagfall charge. After the trip starts, the fare increases based on the distance travelled, and waiting time may apply when the taxi is stationary or moving slowly. Different fare levels apply depending on whether the journey starts during the daytime weekday period or during the night, weekend or public holiday period. Canberra also has separate fare categories for standard single hire, standard multiple hire, 5 to 7 passenger high occupancy taxis, and 8 or more passenger high occupancy taxis.
