How the Sydney Taxi Fare Estimate Is Calculated

The route engine calculates an available road route between the selected addresses. The calculator applies one distance rate to the first 12 kilometres and the relevant lower or higher tier to any remaining distance.

Your selected Sydney travel time determines the day or night tariff. An eligible peak-time charge may also be added. The calculator does not treat the entire journey duration as waiting time. Instead, expected slow or stationary time must be entered separately when that option is available.

Selected tolls and other applicable costs are shown separately in the breakdown. The result is a planning estimate and cannot guarantee the final meter or booked fare.

Rank and Hail and Booked Taxi Fares

A rank-and-hail estimate should not be treated as a booked service quote. Providers can use different disclosed pricing arrangements for booked journeys. See the Sydney taxi rates guide for a fuller explanation of these fare types.

Sydney Airport Taxi Fare Estimates

When calculating an airport journey, select the correct pickup point: T1 International, T2 Domestic or T3 Domestic. The terminal can affect the road route, distance and journey time. A taxi access charge may apply to metered pickups from an airport taxi rank.

A fixed-fare trial applies only to eligible, direct, non-booked journeys from a Sydney Airport taxi rank to the designated Sydney CBD area. It does not automatically apply from the CBD to the airport. Booked taxis, airport transfers and rideshare services can use separately agreed prices. The dedicated airport calculator explains the direction, boundary, terminal and vehicle conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I estimate my taxi fare in Sydney?

Enter your pickup point and destination in the Taxi Fare Calculator Sydney, choose the expected travel period and add likely waiting time. The tool uses route distance and Sydney urban fare inputs to provide an approximate taxi estimate.

The maximum urban night distance rate is higher from 10 pm to 6 am. A peak-time hire charge may also apply on Friday and Saturday nights and nights before public holidays. Select the correct time when using the Taxi Fare Calculator Sydney.

The calculator includes only the waiting time you select or the assumptions stated in the result. It cannot predict every live delay. Slow traffic can increase the metered fare because the waiting rate applies below 26 km/h.

Tolls are added when the taxi uses a toll road. Check the result breakdown to see what the tool includes. If no toll appears, allow for it separately when you calculate taxi price.

Yes. Enter the correct airport terminal and destination. Some direct, non-booked trips from the Sydney Airport Precinct to the defined CBD zone use the official fixed-fare trial instead of a normal calculated estimate.
