Estimate a Montréal taxi fare using road distance, local travel time, Québec taxi meter inputs and eligible Montréal–Trudeau Airport fixed-fare rules. This independent informational calculator does not create or confirm a taxi booking.
Use the Taxi Fare Calculator Montreal to estimate the cost of a taxi trip before you travel. Enter a pickup point, choose a destination, select the local travel date and time, and add any extra waiting minutes you expect. The calculator uses the estimated road route, Québec taxi meter inputs, and eligible Montréal–Trudeau Airport fixed-fare rules to show a practical result in Canadian dollars.
The result is an estimate, not a booking or guaranteed taxi quote. TaxiFareCalculators.com is an independent informational website. It does not own taxis, dispatch drivers, accept bookings or payments, or represent the Commission des transports du Québec, the City of Montréal, or Aéroports de Montréal.
The Taxi Fare Calculator Montreal automatically applies the day or night meter inputs according to the selected departure time. It also checks whether a trip may qualify for the published fixed fare between Montréal–Trudeau International Airport, known as YUL, and the defined downtown Montréal zone. The official zone and the final driver determination still control eligibility.
You can use the tool as a taxi fare calculator, cab fare calculator, taxicab calculator, cab calculator, taxi cost calculator, or cab price calculator. These names describe the same main purpose: helping you estimate taxi cost for a selected Montréal route.
The Taxi Fare Calculator Montreal starts with the road distance and estimated driving duration between the selected addresses. It then applies the tariff for the chosen time period. The calculator includes the starting charge, distance component, estimated low-speed or stopped time, additional waiting minutes entered by the user, and the mandatory Québec per-trip fee.
A real taximeter does not simply charge the full per-kilometre rate and full per-minute rate at the same time. Below the official transition speed, it calculates by time. At or above that speed, it calculates by distance. The calculator uses route data to approximate this split and displays a range because a route service cannot reproduce the meter’s second-by-second movement.
Use the result as a cab estimate, taxi estimate, taxi fare estimate, taxi cab fare estimate, or cab price estimate. It is especially useful when you need to estimate my taxi fare, estimate my cab fare, calculate cab fare, or calculate cost of taxi travel before leaving.
For ordinary taxi-rank, street-hail, or person-to-person taxi requests that use the Commission’s tariff, the following meter inputs apply.
| Fare component | Day rate: trip starts 5:00 a.m.–10:59 p.m. | Night rate: trip starts 11:00 p.m.–4:59 a.m. |
|---|---|---|
| Starting meter amount | C$4.10 | C$4.70 |
| Distance rate | C$2.05 per km | C$2.35 per km |
| Waiting or low-speed rate | C$0.77 per minute | C$0.89 per minute |
| Waiting rate per hour | C$46.20 | C$53.40 |
| Québec per-trip fee | C$1.05 | C$1.05 |
| Meter transition speed | 22.537 km/h | 22.723 km/h |
The C$1.05 charge is added once per trip. It is a C$0.90 fee plus taxes. The published meter components already include applicable taxes.
The selected start time determines the taxi fare rate. A ride beginning at 10:55 p.m. uses the day tariff, while a ride beginning at 11:00 p.m. uses the night tariff. For this reason, enter the expected pickup time rather than the expected arrival time when you calculate taxi price.
When the taxi is moving at or above the transition speed, the meter uses the distance rate. When the vehicle is moving below the transition speed, the meter uses the time rate. Traffic lights, congestion, loading delays, and extra stops can therefore affect the final taxi fare.
The calculator’s cab meter calculator logic estimates low-speed time from the route duration and transition speed. It also lets you enter extra waiting time separately. This provides a more transparent taxi cab estimate than multiplying the full distance and full journey time without considering how the meter switches.
The calculator includes special YUL pricing for eligible trips between Montréal–Trudeau International Airport and downtown Montréal.
| YUL taxi trip | Day: 5:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m. | Night: 11:00 p.m.–5:00 a.m. |
|---|---|---|
| YUL ↔ eligible downtown Montréal zone | C$49.45 fixed total | C$56.70 fixed total |
| Metered trip starting at YUL to another destination | C$21.65 minimum | C$24.75 minimum |
These are the currently published YUL taxi amounts.
The airport fixed fare applies only when the trip meets the official YUL and downtown-zone conditions. A trip with an address outside the defined zone, an extra stop, or a different arrangement may be metered instead. For a metered ride that starts at YUL, the published airport minimum can apply.
The calculator performs a conservative automatic check for YUL and downtown Montréal. Treat that detection as guidance, not a final zone ruling. Confirm fixed-fare eligibility with the official airport taxi dispatcher or driver before the ride begins.
At YUL, passengers can find the official taxi dispatcher at Door 23 on the arrivals level. Use the designated taxi area rather than accepting an unsolicited ride inside the terminal.
The estimate may include:
The taxi expense calculator shows these items in the result breakdown so passengers can understand how the amount was produced. It also displays the route distance, expected duration, pricing mode, tariff period, and map.
No debit or credit card surcharge is added. Québec consumer guidance states that taxi drivers cannot add a fee because a passenger pays by debit or credit card.
The final amount on the meter can be higher or lower than the online taxi price estimate. Common reasons include:
Québec rules allow some trips requested through an eligible technological method to use a disclosed maximum price accepted in advance. A written contract can also set a different agreed price. The meter estimate is most relevant to a street hail, taxi rank, or another request priced under the Commission’s tariff.
For better planning, compare the cab fare estimate with the amount shown at the start of the ride and ask about any fixed or agreed price before departure. A cab fare quote or taxi quote from a booking provider may not match the regulated meter calculation shown here.
The calculator can help with local trips across central Montréal and supported nearby areas. Popular route types include:
Enter the exact addresses instead of only neighbourhood names when possible. A precise pickup and destination improve the road route and cab fare estimate. The tool can also work as a cab ride calculator, taxi service calculator, taxi service cost estimate, or taxi service estimate for travel planning, but it does not contact a taxi company.
Typing an address without selecting a suggestion does not confirm the coordinates. Choose the correct result so the cab fare finder can calculate the road route.
The trip start time controls whether the day or night tariff applies. Check the date and local Montréal time before calculating.
Normal traffic is already considered through the route duration. Enter extra waiting minutes only for a planned stop, passenger delay, or another delay beyond typical route traffic.
For a YUL trip, check whether the destination is inside the official downtown fixed-fare zone. The taxi fare checker can identify likely eligible routes, but the automatic check is not a legal zone confirmation.
Use the taxi price finder again if the pickup point, destination, travel time, or extra waiting changes. A new route can produce a different taxi fare estimate.
Taxi prices depend on the pricing method used for the trip. Regulated meter pricing uses a start amount and then switches between distance and time. Eligible YUL-to-downtown trips use a published fixed total. A technology-based request or written contract may use an accepted price that differs from the meter.
This is why two trips with the same distance may have different cab prices. One route may move steadily, while another may spend more time in congestion. Night trips also use higher meter inputs than day trips. Use the calculator to calculate taxi rate and calculate taxi ride costs for your expected route, but treat the result as a planning range.
A taxi fare finder or cab fare checker should explain these limits rather than display an unexplained number. This page shows the fare components, tariff period, route, and estimate method to help passengers review the result.
The calculator does not apply a separate maxi taxi price. Vehicle capacity, accessible-vehicle needs, luggage requirements, pre-booked group transport, or a written agreed price may affect what a provider offers. Ask the taxi company for a clear maxi taxi price before confirming a larger vehicle.
The standard calculator can still provide a route-based cab quote for comparison, but that cab quote is not a confirmed larger-vehicle fare.
The Taxi Fare Calculator Montreal uses the selected route, local travel time, current Québec meter inputs, and eligible YUL fixed-fare rules. It is designed to provide a useful planning estimate, but only the real meter, eligible fixed fare, or accepted agreed price determines the final charge.
Enter the pickup and destination, select the correct addresses, choose the departure time, add any extra waiting, and calculate taxi. The tool will display the expected distance, duration, tariff, and estimated fare range.
Yes. The calculator checks for an eligible fixed trip between YUL and downtown Montréal. Other destinations use meter inputs, with the published YUL minimum applied when relevant.
A real meter switches between time and distance according to vehicle speed. Route data cannot know every second of the future ride, so a range is more honest than an exact guarantee.
Yes. A trip starting from 11:00 p.m. to 4:59 a.m. uses the night tariff: C$4.70 at the start, C$2.35 per kilometre, and C$0.89 per minute when the meter is charging by time, plus the C$1.05 trip fee.
No. A debit or credit card payment surcharge is not included because Québec consumer guidance prohibits taxi drivers from adding a fee for that payment method.
Calculate each direction separately, especially when the pickup time changes. The return route may use a different tariff, traffic pattern, or airport rule.
Use exact addresses, select the correct pickup time, enter only genuine extra waiting, and review the fare breakdown. Recalculate if the route or timing changes.
Not necessarily. A taxi service calculator may estimate a regulated meter fare, while a booking service may provide a technology-based or agreed price. Read the pricing terms before accepting a booking.
