How Adelaide Taxi Fare Calculator Compare Across Australia

Compare Adelaide’s weekday daytime taxi fare calculator with representative day tariffs from major Australian cities. Each example uses the same 8 km journey and 5 minutes of waiting time, making it easier to compare the base fare, distance charge, waiting cost and estimated total.

For Adelaide Tariff 1, the example combines a A$4.00 flagfall, A$2.30 per kilometre and A$47.40 per hour waiting rate. The resulting A$26.35 fare is an illustration only. Airpor

Estimate a Taxi Fare in Adelaide Before You Travel

The Adelaide taxi fare calculator helps you estimate the cost of a taxi journey within metropolitan Adelaide. Enter your pickup address, destination, expected travel time and passenger group to receive an estimated fare range.

The calculator uses the estimated road distance and South Australia metropolitan taxi tariff inputs. It also considers the applicable flagfall, per-kilometre rate, waiting time and selected extra charges. The result includes an estimated distance, journey duration, fare breakdown and route map.

This is an independent planning tool. It does not operate taxis, accept bookings or provide a guaranteed fare quote. The final amount charged by the taxi meter may be different.

How the Adelaide Taxi Fare Calculator Works

The calculator first estimates the road route between the selected pickup and destination. It then automatically chooses Tariff 1, 2, 3 or 4 using the Adelaide travel date, time and passenger group.

The estimated fare can include:

  • The flagfall for the selected tariff
  • The estimated road distance multiplied by the applicable kilometre rate
  • Additional stopped or slow-moving time entered by the user
  • The A$2 point-to-point transport levy
  • The A$2.40 peak-period fee when the selected time qualifies
  • The Adelaide Airport T1 taxi-rank fee when applicable
  • A booking fee entered by the user
  • A selected non-cash payment surcharge
  • Tolls or other permitted charges entered by the user

The calculator displays a fare range rather than one fixed price. This allows for possible differences in route, traffic, waiting time and the final taxi meter reading.

Adelaide Taxi Rates Used by the Calculator

The calculator uses the following metropolitan Adelaide taxi tariff inputs. These figures were reviewed on 19 July 2026 against the current South Australian Government taxi fare information.

TariffPassengers and travel periodFlagfallDistance rateWaiting time
Tariff 11 to 4 passengers, Monday to Friday from 6 am to 7 pmA$4.00A$2.30 per kmA$47.40 per hour
Tariff 21 to 4 passengers, nights, weekends or public holidaysA$5.40A$2.60 per kmA$47.40 per hour
Tariff 35 or more passengers, Monday to Friday from 6 am to 7 pmA$5.20A$2.90 per kmA$60.50 per hour
Tariff 45 or more passengers, nights, weekends or public holidaysA$7.00A$3.40 per kmA$60.50 per hour

Tariffs 2 and 4 are the higher rates. They apply from 7 pm to 6 am on weekdays and throughout weekends and public holidays.

The calculator checks the selected Adelaide date and time and automatically applies the relevant tariff. If a South Australian public holiday is not detected, the public-holiday option can be selected manually.

How to Calculate a Cab Fare in Adelaide

1. Enter the pickup location

Enter a complete Adelaide street address, hotel, airport terminal, attraction or suburb. Select the correct address from the suggestion list. You can also use your current location when browser location access is available.

2. Enter the destination

Add the exact drop-off address. A specific street address normally produces a more useful route estimate than entering only a suburb name.

3. Select the Adelaide travel date and time

Choose when the taxi journey is expected to begin. The calculator uses Adelaide local time to determine whether a weekday daytime, night, weekend, public-holiday or peak-period fare condition applies.

4. Choose the passenger group

Select either:

  • 1 to 4 passengers
  • 5 or more passengers

Trips with five or more passengers use Tariff 3 during weekday daytime periods or Tariff 4 at night, on weekends and on public holidays.

5. Add relevant fare options

Open “More fare options” to add expected waiting time, an airport taxi-rank fee, booking fee, payment surcharge, toll or another permitted charge. Add only the charges that genuinely apply to the journey.

6. Select Get Fare Estimate

Review the estimated fare range, distance, journey duration, selected tariff, passenger group, fare breakdown and route map.

Additional Charges That May Affect an Adelaide Taxi Fare

ChargeHow the calculator handles it
Point-to-point transport levyA$2 is automatically included for supported trips starting in metropolitan Adelaide
Peak-period feeA$2.40 is automatically added between 12:01 am and 5:59 am on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday
Adelaide Airport feeA$4.75 can be automatically detected or manually selected for pickup from the T1 Airport Terminal Taxi Rank
Booking feeEnter the amount charged by the booking service, if known
Waiting timeEnter expected additional stopped or slow-moving minutes
Non-cash surchargeThe calculator can estimate the maximum 5% surcharge
Tolls or other chargesEnter only a charge that is expected to apply to the route

The booking fee is not fixed by this calculator because it may depend on the booking service. The South Australian Government states that the maximum surcharge for paying a taxi fare by debit or credit card is 5%.

Temporary access taxi update

The South Australian Government currently permits an additional A$2 surcharge for a journey undertaken by an access taxi service from 29 June until 11:59 pm on 2 August 2026, unless it is revoked earlier. This is not a general surcharge for every standard Adelaide taxi trip and is not automatically added by the calculator.

Adelaide Airport Taxi Fare Estimates

The calculator can estimate a taxi fare from Adelaide Airport to destinations such as Adelaide CBD, North Adelaide, Glenelg, Henley Beach or other supported metropolitan addresses.

When the pickup is recognised as the T1 Airport Terminal Taxi Rank, the calculator can automatically add the A$4.75 airport fee. You can also add or remove this fee manually under “More fare options”.

The fee applies to an eligible pickup from the T1 taxi rank. It should not be added simply because the journey ends at Adelaide Airport. Adelaide Airport currently lists an A$4.75 taxi and rideshare access fee for each exit from its designated ground-transport areas. Adelaide Airport fees and charges

What Can Change the Final Taxi Fare?

A calculated cab fare is a planning estimate. The final taxi meter amount may change because of:

  • A different road route
  • Traffic congestion or roadworks
  • Time spent stopped or moving slowly
  • The time and date when the journey begins
  • Weekends or South Australian public holidays
  • The number of passengers
  • Pickup from the Adelaide Airport taxi rank
  • A pre-arranged booking fee
  • Tolls and other permitted charges
  • The chosen payment method
  • Updated government tariffs or temporary surcharges

The calculator cannot reproduce the taxi meter’s second-by-second speed information. If delays are expected, enter additional stopped or slow-moving minutes to create a more suitable cab fare estimate.

Where Can This Adelaide Cab Fare Calculator Be Used?

This calculator is designed for pickup and destination addresses within its supported metropolitan Adelaide area. It is useful for local city journeys, airport transfers, hotel trips, beach visits and travel between Adelaide suburbs.

Journeys that finish outside the Adelaide metropolitan area may be subject to separate country taxi fare rules. The calculator should not be treated as an exact country-trip fare quote.

Popular Adelaide Taxi Trips to Estimate

You can use the calculator for journeys such as:

Popular journeyFare details worth checking
Adelaide Airport to Adelaide CBDAirport fee, levy and selected tariff
Adelaide Airport to North AdelaideAirport fee, road distance and traffic
Adelaide Airport to GlenelgAirport fee and route distance
Adelaide CBD to Glenelg BeachDistance, travel time and weekend tariff
Rundle Mall to GlenelgCBD traffic and journey time
Adelaide Oval to Adelaide AirportEvent traffic, waiting time and airport destination
Adelaide Railway Station to GlenelgExact pickup point and road route
Adelaide CBD to Henley BeachDistance, traffic and travel period
Port Adelaide to Adelaide CBDRoute distance and expected delays

Enter the exact pickup and destination rather than relying on a general route name. This helps the taxi cost calculator produce a more relevant road-distance estimate.

How Accurate Is the Adelaide Taxi Fare Calculator?

The calculator uses a road route when routing data is available. It then applies the selected Adelaide tariff and applicable fare inputs to calculate a planning range.

If normal road routing is temporarily unavailable, the tool uses an approximate route method and displays a wider fare range. The result may therefore be less precise.

The estimate is not a live cab meter, provider quote or guaranteed final price. For the most useful result:

  • Select both addresses from the suggestion lists
  • Enter the correct travel date and time
  • Choose the correct passenger group
  • Add expected slow or stopped time
  • Include only known extra charges
  • Check the fare breakdown before relying on the result
